Dr. Gelsomina Papalardo (MS Degree in Physics, Ph.D. Methods and Technologies for Environmental Monitoring) is the chief scientist of the CNR-IMAA lidar laboratory and of the CIAO observatory. She has over 20 years’ research experience in the field of atmospheric studies with lidar techniques. She has authored or co-authored more than 50 papers in the peer-reviewed literature. She participated as PI in several national and international projects. She coordinated the FP6 Project “European Aerosol Research Lidar Network – Advanced Sustainable Observation System (EARLINET-ASOS)” and is the EARLINET speaker since 2006.
She is the coordinator of ACTRIS (Aerosols, Clouds, and Trace gases Research Infrastructure Network) EU FP7 project (2011-2015).
She is the co-chair of GALION, the GAW Aerosol Lidar Observation Network; member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Aerosols of the Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) aerosol program of WMO and of the Scientific Advisory Group on Volcanic Ash (VA-SAG) of WMO and IUGG; member of the EarthCARE Joint Mission Advisory Group.
